19. Susumu Akizuki & Yasuhisa Inoue
Works: XV: Brotherhood
Brotherhood was another of the many titles released in tandem with XV, serving as an animated prequel that delved into the backstory of the game’s leading foursome. Some would argue that the game itself should serve that purpose, but nevertheless Brotherhood is an enjoyable experience that fleshes out elements of the characters and has a solid soundtrack to boot.
This was the result of a collaboration between series newcomers Susumu Akizuki and Yasuhisa Inoue, neither of whom have any other significant credits to their name. Splitting the 22-track collection evenly into 11 tunes apiece, they delivered in short (only three tracks are over two minutes in length) and sweet doses.
Mixing melancholic (‘Solidarity’ and ‘Into Oblivion’), manic (‘Riding The Wind’ and ‘The Daemon Cometh) and melodic (‘Benevolence’ and ‘Take Flight’), their music more than adequately suits its purpose in helping to introduce the game’s characters.
Criminally, the
soundtrack has never been given a standalone release, only available (in tandem
with 24 tracks from XV and eight from Kingsglaive) in an album that was distributed
as a pre-order bonus. Its low profile works against it.
