Ranking Every Final Fantasy Composer
14. Yoshitaka Suzuki
Works: VII Remake, XV
Though both made use of a huge volume of composers to put their soundtracks together, there is very little overlap between XV and VII Remake, with only a couple of individuals contributing to both projects. One of these was Yoshitaka Suzuki, who began his career on Konami’s legendary Metal Gear Solid franchise before supporting the creation of soundtracks for XIII-2, Lightning Returns and Heavensward in an arrangement capacity.
All of his contributions for XV, with the exception of the frantic ‘Hunt Or Be Hunted’ (one of the game’s better battle themes), were for DLC episodes or the post-release story alterations. He was the lead on Episode Prompto, putting together the mesmerising ‘Sound Of My Heart’, as well as the music for optional superbosses Omega and Cerberus in the Royal Edition.
Suzuki’s
contributions to VII Remake were smaller but impactful enough to ensure that he
should be entrusted to keep working on the series’ major releases. Reno’s character
theme is sufficiently manic, whilst the ominousness of ‘Rough Waters’ and
‘Darkness Ahead’ contrasts excellently with the severity communicated by
‘Ascension’.
