Ranking Every Mass Effect Squadmate Ever

19. Vetra

Mass Effect Garrus
Bioware

It feels harsh to put her as low as 19th, it really does. But as you climb through this list, many players will struggle to think of a character she could replace.

Once the deadwood misfires were out of the way, this list was always going to get contentious. Most of Mass Effect’s characters are above and beyond what a lot of games offer, but Vetra is on the lower end of their capabilities.

Just being a female Turian wasn’t enough, given we saw one in ME3’s story and they existed in the multiplayer. But to her credit, that wasn’t her only selling point. She was introduced to us as version of Morgan Freeman’s Red, if the Andromeda Galaxy was Shawshank. That was an interesting enough trope, and separated her from the wealth of squadmates in the original trilogy. Her relationship with her sister was probably the most interesting personal mission in the fourth game too. Better than seeds, anyway.

She’s probably the most unfortunate victim of Andromeda’s relative failure. They seemed to be saving a lot of her most interesting history for a sequel that will likely never arrive now.
