Need for Speed (2015) rebooted the series and returned to the tuner-centric gameplay popularized by the Underground games. The result is a street racing title that has five mini-campaigns: Speed, Build, Crew, Style, and Outlaw Missions which all have different objectives.

Visually, the game still holds up today with its cars and environments being beautifully rendered on the Frostbite Engine. Upgrading your ride is also intuitive while cosmetics such as spoilers, bumpers, and liveries allowed players to personalize their rides as they see fit. Though divisive at best, the game's FMV cutscenes are also enjoyably cheesy as you spend nights hanging out with your virtual friends who do nothing but race. Another huge appeal to the reboot was the chance to meet real-life icons such as Magnus Walker and the late Ken Block.

But despite these positives, Need for Speed (2015) has numerous issues that make it a mixed bag.

The online-only feature of Rivals returns which has led to numerous network issues as well as the inability to pause the game. The police chases here are very lackluster with cop AI being too timid even at higher Heat levels. Finally, the reboot suffers from poor handling and physics which is a core fundamental of any racing game.
