Ranking Every Modern Need For Speed From Worst To Best
7. Need For Speed: Rivals
Need for Speed: Rivals looked like the true successor to Hot Pursuit 2010 on paper. From the racer versus cop dual campaigns to the Pursuit Tech, things were looking good for Ghost Games' debut.
The best part of the game was the two protagonists as you could play as racers and cops much like in Hot Pursuit 2010. The former is all about the risk vs. reward system of avoiding the law as getting caught means losing all your progression. The latter, on the other hand, is about busting perps and taking down racers within the open world. Rivals, then, uses the foundation of a great game and builds upon it by adding more weapons as well as one of the most relentless police systems in the series.
The game, however, gets dragged down by its technical issues as Ghost Games had months to finish the title while implementing the Frostbite 3 engine. The result is handling being poorer than previous entries while its open world reuses assets from Hot Pursuit and The Run. At the same time, its online functionality could disrupt the flow of the game as servers could crash at any moment.
