Ranking EVERY Nintendo Console From Worst To Best
2. Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
Gaming has a lot to thank the Nintendo Entertainment System for. Following the video game crash of 1983, the United States saw a large-scale recession within the industry. It was caused by a lack of quality control, competition from home computers and a flooded console market, then dominated by Atari. Launching in 1983 in Japan and the US two years later, the NES was significant gamble for Nintendo but turned out to be an incredible hit.
Utilising a swappable game cartridge system, Nintendo moved from arcade development to home consoles, launching the NES with 17 different titles that included Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt (With the now iconic NES Zapper), Excitebike and Ice Climber, each of which became widely acclaimed.
It helped re-establish trust in the gaming industry and positioned Nintendo as a major force outside of Japan, bringing in 61 million sales worldwide. Combined with an iconic software library, this alone makes it one of their most influential consoles ever released.
