Ranking EVERY Nintendo Console From Worst To Best
1. Switch
It may be premature to call it Nintendo’s best console but the impact Switch has had on the industry is undeniable. Looking at the commercial failures of Wii U and the evergreen success of the 3DS, Nintendo took the unprecedented move to create a hybrid system, allowing for both portable and home play to capture both markets. Launching in 2017, it brought Nintendo back as a relevant force in the industry.
Overtaking the 3DS as Nintendo’s main portable, the Switch launched with a 720p screen built-in and detachable controllers, allowing for up to five hours portable play and a dock for TV use that provides an extra power boost. It’s clear Nintendo learned from their failures here and the Switch proves to be the console the Wii U should’ve been, bringing console quality games to a portable platform.
Featuring a strong first-party library, not to mention the large number of Wii U ports many gamers otherwise missed, it’s already estimated to have passed Xbox One sales (Which launched in 2013) and became a natural home for indie games on consoles. It’s not as powerful as the PS4 or Xbox One, there’s no denying this, but the portability trade-off has been a game changer for Nintendo and looks to have a positive future.
