Ranking Every Silent Hill Video Game From Worst To Best

8. Silent Hill: Homecoming

Maligned by many for its combat-heavy approach to gameplay, there are very few out there that will truly champion Homecoming as a great Silent Hill game, and rightly so, as narratively it's very flimsy and shoe-horns in as many references to the older games as it can.

Players are put in the shoes of Alex Shepherd, a Special Forces soldier who returns from overseas, only to discover that his father and younger brother are missing. As is the way with these games, Alex soon finds himself within the foggy confines of Silent Hill and must unravel the mystery whilst fending off the horrific entities that prowl the streets.

Sadly Homecoming falls at the first hurdle by putting the emphasis on action over horror. Sure, there is the odd spooky moment and disquieting experience to be found, but Alex's skills in battle do a good job of empowering the player to such a degree that the horror is lacking as a result.

That being said combat is pretty decent enough, and it's a much more visceral experience overall. Though had this just been another survival horror game without the Silent Hill moniker, there's no doubt that it'd be looked back on more fondly.
