8. The Coalition

Similar to Microsoft creating 343 Industries when Bungie separated from Halo, they created The Coalition when Epic Games exited the Gears of War series, leaving Xbox holding the IP.
Rod Fergusson, the producer of Gears 1, was put in charge...but things got off to a lukewarm start. Their first effort, Gears of War 4, managed to play things too safe (cliched story, same enemy types) while new elements grated (new cast of uninteresting characters).
Luckily they returned with Gears 5, arguably the best triple-A Xbox exclusive of the generation. 2019's instalment had a fantastic story and great characters; a great blend of old and new gameplay, and exciting locations and multiplayer.
Attempts to spin the series off (e.g. Gears Tactics) have been strong as well, leading the franchise to stand tall again in this modern age.
Gears 6 is inevitable... but for the first time in nine years, it's a release that gamers will welcome with open arms.
