Ranking October 2016's Video Games From Worst To Best

1. Battlefield I

Battlefield 1
DICE

Putting it out there: Battlefield 1 might be the best shooter we've seen since the original Modern Warfare, and that's not a statement made lightly.

Now, it must be said that the overall tone of BF1 can get a little lost in between the unabashed heroics its characters are shown doing in the campaign, the grim, "War is hell, you are not expected to survive" loading screens and absolute freewheeling carnage of the multiplayer, but for the sheer grit and scope in the presentation overall, it absolutely nails the immortal incomprehension of everything relating to World War I.

For the campaign, DICE elected to tell the story of all sides of the conflict, from an Italian soldier searching for his missing brother, an English tank garrison near the closing days of the conflict, to even Lawrence of Arabia and his fight against the Ottoman Empire.

As always with Battlefield, the multiplayer is where the real longevity is, and DICE have knocked it out the park, easily creating one of the most feature-complete and well-realised modes in years. Weapons are impeccably balanced, the maps allow for tactics to be implemented on the fly, and you actually get bonus XP for working as a unit and completing objectives together.

Combine everything and Battlefield 1 is a resounding return to form for both a developer and series that was so close to flatlining after the buggy as hell fourth main instalment, and the utterly forgettable Battlefield: Hardline.

Welcome back, Battlefield, and over to you, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare...
