4. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
Back to a more mechanics-heavy game, Mario + Rabbids could've been a thrown-together mess of half-baked ideas, yet somehow it manages to contend quite nicely with the likes of XCOM 2: War of the Chosen.
Taking the base turn-based strategy template, Kingdom Battle lets you chain together various moves into one turn, rather than just the standard "Move this far, then fire this far" setup. Now you can leap off friendlies to expand your distance, or slide-tackle foes if they're too close. There are elemental and status modifiers to certain bullet types, and specific characters have specific weapons or traits they can bust out.
Once you realise you can set up both Mario and Luigi in a 'ready to fire' overwatch position - before bouncing an enemy off the ground so they can take the shot - it'll come together in a really magnificent way.
Oh, and this was the first game I played on Switch that made me forget I was on the platform.
It.looks.stunning.
