Ranking The Faces Of Playstation

6. Chimera

Ah Resistance, the classic story of a fantastic game series that doesn€™t make enough money to warrant more titles. (Warning slight SPOILERS ahead for Resistance 2) The Resistance series is truly one of the more overlooked of the entire generation. Many either haven€™t heard of the series or see it as a Gears of War rip-off but you€™d be hugely mistaken. The Resistance series was amazing and had not only fun gameplay with some of the coolest guns I€™ve ever used but also a great story, unique aesthetic and progressive plot. The Gears of War games are awesome but they each feel a little too similar to the last for my liking, whereas each Resistance feels different, yet familiar and in the same vein as its predecessor, while also being leaps and bounds better. Especially Resistance 3, which seen a new protagonist after the ballsy ending of Resistance 2. The third iteration in the series was easily the best albeit with a disappointing ending. The Chimera are the antagonists of the Resistance series, mean looking aliens with a real hatred for humans. In each Resistance title we seen new versions of the Chimera, from the iconic Hybrids to Grims and the Marauders to the Steelheads. Each are unique looking and offer differing combat styles, thus forcing you to change yours and consult a different piece of weaponry. However the standard Chimera foot-soldier, the hybrid, is the most recognisable and what everyone thinks of. With their elongated heads, 6 orange eyes, mouthful of razor-sharp teeth and grey, human-like bodies with 4 tall cooling-towers on their backs, they are easily the most iconic aspect of the resistance series. The Hybrid head was the cover for the 3rd game, with the New York skyline as the teeth. The Chimera were a really interesting enemy, especially in the sequences that taught you more about them and how they€™ve evolved, and the many scenes in which you infiltrate their ships and buildings. Much more than your average monsters or aliens, the Chimera were interesting antagonists whose story and plan to take Earth really develops over the 3 games. Unfortunately the critically acclaimed Resistance series has been indefinitely finished by developer Insomniac, who have no desire to continue the series. This is really disappointing but I look forward to whatever they do next. The Chimera are very recognisable to the Playstation fan base but it€™s hard to gauge their familiarity outside of that market. Sadly they aren€™t as iconic as another alien race from a different Playstation FPS series, which is why they place quite low on the list.
