Ranking The Games & Movies Of Kingdom Hearts: All-in-One Package Worst To Best

3. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance

Kingdom Hearts All In One Package
Square Enix

At its core, the gameplay of Dream Drop Distance is little more than a better version of Birth by Sleep. But that is by no means a bad thing when that game’s system was as good as it was. While it removes the melding system from Birth by Sleep, where you could combine deck commands, what we get instead are Dream Eaters. Think of them like the Personas from that series, but here they’re used in an action RPG formula.

In addition to the spirits, Dream Drop Distance also adds Flowmotion, sort of an extreme sports gameplay take on Kingdom Hearts. Sora and Riku will bounce off walls and spin around poles and enemies before attacking. It adds a new element to gameplay and travel. It is, at times, a little broken with Sora and Riku flailing everywhere, though even this makes it fun, in that you are able to manipulate the environment to your advantage.

Ranking these, it’s a toss-up between Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, but the edge has to go to Dream Drop Distance just for the expanded gameplay options. It must be said though that Birth by Sleep still has the better story, because anyone who knows what the hell is going on in Dream Drop Distance is a damned liar.
