Ranking What Was REALLY The Best Video Game Every Year 1990-2021
1998 - The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
Speaking of defining titles, 1998's Ocarina of Time upended the very way we control games in three dimensions.
If Mario 64 showed the world how to conceptualised a 3D world, Ocarina added to that with Z-targeting, aiming modes, complex, rewarding dungeons and an overall progression that took you from an innocent forest child, to an adult fixing a world they'd accidentally broken.
1998 was a barnstomer across the board, from Metal Gear Solid to Tekken 3, Resident Evil 2 to Half-Life, Baldur's Gate and Crash 3: Warped, but Ocarina just steals the top spot through sheer importance and execution.
