Rockstar took a year out and returned with what felt like another world on the other side of the screen.

It might not seem like much now, but GTA taking the action out of one city and letting you traverse entire regions of woodland, forest and mountains to visit two more locales was mind-blowing.

That's alongside some light RPG systems like working out or eating right, that let you mould and dress CJ however you liked.

This was Rockstar at their most experimental, and coupled with an iconic soundtrack, San Andreas left an immortal mark.
