2011 - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

It might be the year Dark Souls landed alongside the mighty Portal 2, Dead Space 2 and Gears of War 3, but one game above all else broke every record possible - including "most likely to be remade" - Skyrim.

Today it feels like a staple of the RPG genre, but what Bethesda achieved - streamlining parts of the experience from Oblivion and widening the sheer amount of lives you could lead - latched onto the mainstream tighter than ever.

A decade later, there are still parts of Tamriel you haven't seen; quests you've missed, awesome secrets worth seeking out and another character you could spend another 100 hours with.
