Seeing as how most of Red Dead Online's mechanics have been lifted straight from the single player, it shouldn't be that much of a surprise to discover that hunting is an effective way to raise funds. Though, with this being online, don't expect to make nearly half as much as you did when embodying the character of Arthur Morgan.
Still, you shouldn't pass up the opportunity to hunt when it's available. Skinning animals, selling carcasses and carrying as many pelts as possible is a quick and surprisingly effective way to accumulate money, and though it too is a laborious exercise, you're never too far from a butcher in Red Dead, and repeating the exercise for an hour or two can net you a tidy some.
Obviously it can get a little repetitive going around slaughtering - and then selling - every creature you encounter, but it's so far the most reliable way of generating cash, and generating it speedily at that.
