Red Dead Rebellion: 10 Essential Features It Must Have

10. A New Protagonist

Who doesn't love John Marston? He was a great protagonist in Red Dead Redemption and his ultimate fate is a powerful, shocking conclusion to a wonderful arc. Several years on, fans still talk about him as one of Rockstar's best creations. With so much fan love for the character, many have been hoping that the next Red Dead turns back the clock to allow us to play as Marston in his prime, running with Dutch's gang. Some have also been curious to follow Jack Marston in the wake of his murder of Edgar Ross. However, the Marston story seems pretty complete. John's past was doled out in dialogue over the course of the game enough to make actually playing it seem redundant, especially since we know how it all ends anyway. The game's epilogue with Jack chiefly served to bring the outlaw arc around; there's no need to continue on with him when he served his thematic purpose. The next game should suck players into an entirely new story, fuelled by a new protagonist. To revisit John's past would be to dilute just how effortlessly Redemption was able to stand on its own two feet. Players should be able to embark on a fresh adventure full of surprises without knowing where the road is taking them.
