Red Dead Redemption 1 Or 2 - Which Is Better?
8. The Theme Of Redemption
With those out of the way let's delve into the gritty goodness of any good role-playing game, the story. Both games challenge the audience in asking the question, is there such a thing as redemption? While the stories explore the life and times of Arthur Morgan and John Marston, the overarching theme is much darker. When viewed as a whole, Red Dead Redemption is a sad tale of the futility of trying to fight change.
Each character tries to tackle the oncoming storm of modernisation in a different way and both ultimately fail. Arthur fights tooth and nail for a better future for his friends and family while John attempts to erase his past by adapting to the new ways.
The endless cycle of violence at the core of Red Dead Redemption feels like an epic battle between good and evil but will eventually leave a sour taste. Arthur gives his life so that John may leave the outlaw lifestyle behind. In an unfortunate turn of events, John is tricked into helping the same government that hunted his friends and is eventually betrayed. History is doomed to repeat itself as John’s son Jack inevitably falls into the same quest for revenge as his predecessors.
In the end, both games teach us the same lesson and no points will be awarded for being absolute tearjerkers.
