2. Story Exchanges & Conversations Happen Dynamically Around You

Before release, Rockstar made a point of saying RDR2 would "revolutionise the open-world genre". Whilst back then we weren't too sure what they meant, now it seems that a ton of character-building, immersive dialogue and general tone-setting is all done around you.

Whilst NPC conversations aren't anything new, RDR2 has a couple of tricks up its sleeve.

First is peppering the immediate vicinity and campsite with main and side characters, giving you a better sense of your entire troupe being present at all times, and second is a contextual interactive dialogue, that can be triggered at any time.

The latter is done with L2 and lets you bring up talk to any character, delving into everything from commentaries on past missions to the politics of the land at the time. Together means the "story parts" and "game parts" of this particular open world game are no longer so notably separated.
