Resident Evil 2 Remake: 9 Iconic Moments We Can't Wait To See
And you thought Birkin was ugly before.
Following 20 years of hope, rumour and speculation that Raccoon City would rise once more to retell the woeful tale of its final days, Resident Evil's infamous metropolis nestled within the picturesque Arklay mountains will live again in 2019.
Capcom, delighted with the success of its efforts in recreating the Spencer Mansion where Umbrella's gruesome machinations first came to light, has finally seen fit to give the original game's successor the remake it deserves and, just as it did with Chris and Jill's quest for survival, Capcom's aiming to raise the benchmark for what a video game remake should be all over again.
Kendo (and his gun shop), Leon, Claire, Birkin, Ada: Resident Evil 2's entire ensemble cast returns to the doomed city next year to reenact the events that transpired on Raccoon City's judgement day, but don't expect events to play out exactly as before.
Mr. X will still doggedly pursue Leon and Claire wherever they go, Marvin is still going the way of the Dodo and jump scares aplenty are still on the cards, but how, where and when these iconic moments will occur is anyone's guess, and that's a fantastic decision on Capcom's part.
Striking the right balance between familiarity and surprise isn't easy, but Resident Evil 2's long-awaited remake looks bang on track to meet that goal.
Reliving its reimagined most iconic moments will be one of 2019's biggest treats.
9. Brian Irons' Grisly Death
As consumers of this world's greatest form of entertainment, we've self-trained our stomachs not to upset at the sight of the red stuff, but even some of the finest gore that gaming has to offer pales in comparison to the death of police chief Brian Irons.
Even in its original pixelated glory, Irons' literal splitting in half, courtesy of an embryo hastily implanted by William Birkin, isn't the easiest scene to watch, so imagine what Capcom will be able to pull off with two decade's worth of hardware improvements at its disposal?
As per the deluge of details that have emerged since Resident Evil 2 Remake's triumphant unveiling earlier this year, we know that Capcom's not averse to making changes to certain events that took place in the original, but Irons' death, like that of a certain subordinate before him, ranks among the most memorable moments in Leon and Claire's tale of survival, so there's no way Capcom won't deliver the goods.
Just be sure to keep a barf bag at the ready when the moment arrives.
