Resident Evil 2 Remake: 9 Iconic Moments We Can't Wait To See
8. The Lickers' Debut
Zombies aren't all bad. In fact, they're a sight for sore eyes in comparison to the other various types of G-Virus infused nasties that have opted to nest in Raccoon City's police station.
Lickers, like the head-lopping Hunters from Resident Evil 2's predecessor, is a step up from the series' run of the mill undead, but unlike the latter, which only come into play midway through the journey, these long-tongued nasties can be found skittering across ceilings barely an hour into play.
Capcom immortalised Leon and Claire's first encounter with the skinless fiends via a cutscene - one of few in-game events to be so - but even before that, the golden rule of horror (it's what you can't see) is in full effect.
It's a mastery of suspense moment, as either protagonist edges their way around a narrow corridor, all the while hearing the slow, methodical sound of drool mixed with blood dripping from the ceiling and onto the decapitated corpse that is the Licker's latest meal.
If Capcom can capture but a glimmer of that sense of fear for its reimagined, remade Licker, then boy, are we in for a scare.
