Resident Evil 2 Remake: 9 Tiny Details Fans Will Love
6. Retro Gaming
Capcom's sly inclusion of a PS1 console in Resident Evil 2 Remake's initial unveiling was the first and only tip-off some needed to discern exactly what was unfolding on-screen, but it was far from the only cue.
Along with the hardware homage to the series' roots, an uneasy tussle between police officer and zombie in the trailer's background, seen through the eyes of a (G)virus-spreading rodent (rest in peace, little fella), reference Resident Evil Outbreak's own opening cinematic, which similarly played out via a rat's-eye view. Even the final squeak it lets out before being unceremoniously crushed by toppled shelves is the exact same as that used in the survival-horror spin-off.
It's one of the most delightfully devilish throwbacks to Resident Evil's roots we've seen for a hot minute, but about that PlayStation console. Could it be possible that Capcom will hide it somewhere in-game, pre-loaded with a playable copy of the original Resident Evil 2?
Now, wouldn't that be meta?
