Resident Evil 4: 25 Mind-Blowing Things You Didn't Know

Resident Evil and Breaking Bad. A match made in heaven.

Resident Evil 4 Merchant
Capcom

In 2005, Capcom changed everything. Not only did Resident Evil 4 transform the boundaries of the survival horror franchise but the gameplay was so pin-point perfect and fun as all hell that it reshaped action gaming forever. RE4 is often called one of the best games of all time and a title that left it's mark on the industry for very good reason.

And despite 18 years of it, people still can't get enough... which is precisely why Capcom are gearing up to release a remake of the classic in the coming weeks.

With the anticipation of that extremely high, it seems prudent to look back on the original and delve beyond the surface. Beyond what it did great as a gameplay experience, there is a tonne of interesting bitesize trivia about the title. Sure, everyone knows that the game was restarted numerous times, with older versions becoming the likes of Devil May Cry, Haunting Ground and so on...

But did you know RE4's logo saw Capcom hit with a lawsuit? That The Merchant nearly returned to the series? And that Ashley's gameplay section holds a heart-warming secret?

Capcom

Resident Evil 4 was part of a slate of titles designed to boost hardware sales of the Nintendo GameCube. The Capcom Five, as they were known, were exclusives for the little purple box and RE4 was among them.

However, with a masterpiece on their hands and the Cube's relatively small install base, the company wanted to bring the title to PlayStation 2.

Mikami vehemently opposed the idea, threatening to quit Capcom if it went ahead and saying in an interview that he would "cut his own head off" if it happened.

Considering that he couldn't stop the inevitable, we have to assume he was being factitious. Still, to make fun of this, the director's next title Godhand would reference this by include a racing dog by the name of "Mikami's Head".
