Resident Evil 4: All Ports Ranked Worst To Best
9. PlayStation 2
Resident Evil 4 director, Shinji Mikami, infamously said his game, "will definitely release only on GameCube. If it comes to another console, I will cut my head off."
Well, somebody better book Mikami a session with the chainsaw-wielding Dr Salvador since the PlayStation 2 rereleased the game less than a year after its debut.
But this port had its problems. If you place the PS2 and GameCube versions side-by-side, it's blatant that Sony's port has a lower polygon count. Because of the inadequate hardware, the environments lose a lot of details, forcing the developers to redesign the lighting and water effects to compensate.
Hair also posed a problem during the conversion since the the luscious locks of Ada, Ashley, and Leon have inconsistent movements in this port. (Considering the player has to look at the back of Leon's hair throughout the playthrough, that's a big issue.)
To make sure the game fitted on a PS2 disc, the cutscenes had to be compressed into movie files. However, this decision meant the characters in the scenes wear their default costumes, no matter what outfit the player chose for them. This compression also hindered the voice and sound effects, making everything sound muffled.
