Resident Evil 6: 10 Reasons It’s The Death of the Franchise

8. It€™s Clearly A Money Spinner

I€™m not completely naïve; video games are a business, an industry that requires money to be made from its output or else, well what€™s the point? To please Resident Evil fans? I€™d say that€™s probably maybe fourth on Capcom€™s to-do-list, if even that high. That€™s fine though, I don€™t mind being seen as a number, as long as I€™m not seen as a number that will buy any old tat that€™s shoved in front of my consciousness. I€™d be more excited about Resident Evil 6 if I didn€™t think it had been forced out of a constipated Capcom, regardless of how necessary or innovative it may or may not be, just because number 6 was due on shelves, not because they actually had something interesting to say with the game. I guess what I€™m saying is, even though gaming is commerce, it€™s always better when that commerce is counterbalanced with some art or innovation. I just feel that RE6 is commerce for commerce€™s sake. And if that€™s the attitude going forward, I can€™t help imagine that the RE franchise on the whole is on a depressing downward spiral.
