4. Capcom's Vision
Whatever your hang-ups about the game, or the problems in the execution, you really cannot fault the scale of Capcom's vision for Resident Evil 6: they wanted to make a game that was bigger and better than the last Resident Evil game, acknowledging the horror heritage of the series at the same time as adapting to the wider concerns of the gaming market. And they weren't far from success in the end - few games would ever try to fuse together three varied story arcs with three different gameplay types, and few developers could pull it off even to the degree of success that Capcom managed. What Resident Evil does more than anything is offer promise for the future of the franchise. Some might say that the game is the death of the current franchise - but given the fact that the next generation of consoles is coming up on the horizon, and that future Resident Evil games would come with new technology and new capabilities, that perhaps isn't as bad a suggestion as some might think. In among the muddled good intentions and the less successful sequences, there were still moments that really stood out, and showed exactly why fans still stick with the franchise despite their many and occasionally vociferous complaints, and if the next Resident Evil game can show more focus and cut out the less entertaining parts, there is certainly some promise for a successful outcome.
