Resident Evil 7: 10 Facts, Secrets & Easter Eggs You Totally Missed
3. The Ghostly Apparitions In Beginning Hour Were Easter Eggs
Back when the Beginning Hour demo dropped, fans lost their collective minds at the very notion of ghosts being in a Resident Evil game.
Now, if you've finished the story you'll know their true explanation, but the notion of apparitions and poltergeists isn't quite as ridiculous as you might think.
See, 1989 game - and main Resi-inspiration - Sweet Home had various ghostly enemies, and during development, Capcom were aiming to follow that through, even building a prototype with supernatural foes.
It was only when director Shinji Mikami was thinking about the practicalities of melee combat and having enemies the player could fight or grapple with, that he stumbled upon George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead, and the switch to zombies was made, changing the franchise forever.
After all, do you think Resident Evil would've taken off to such a degree if it was entirely ghost-focused?
Including 'ghosts' in RE7 is both part of the story, yes, but more so as a continuation of Capcom's 20th Anniversary easter eggs from 2016, providing you know their true origins.
