4. Movie Tie-In
PatheThe thing which makes most video game movies terrible is that they seemingly have nothing in common with the games. The plot is different, the characters often frustratingly altered and they just lack the things which make the games so great. The Resident Evil movie franchise falls into all of those categories. It has differed from the games in the sense that the world in which the films are set is much different. Apparently the plot change was intentional and despite this the movies have still managed to implement key characters such as Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker regardless of if the movie plot conflicts with their game persona.
The protagonist in the films, Alice (played by Milla Jovovich) never appears in the Resident Evil games, something which took fans by surprise on the initial release of the film. The new installment of the Resident Evil franchise is rumoured to be a direct tie-in with the Resident Evil: Retribution film which is the fifth in the movie franchise. Perhaps the game will offer up the back story of certain characters, offer the solution to some unanswered questions or be a direct copy of the film. We are hoping its not the latter but with the recent shortcomings of Resident Evil, who knows?
