As much as we all enjoyed the absurdity of watching Chris Redfield punch a boulder five times his size into a volcano, there comes a time when you must take a step back and take an objective look at how far your series has drifted from its original vision.

For a series that was built upon making the player feel vulnerable in an environment filled with dread, every entry in the series from Resident Evil 4 onwards has steadily increased the power afforded to its protagonists, to the point where believability goes right out the window.

With Resident Evil 7 aiming to return to the series' roots, I'm ecstatic to see that our avatar is no longer armed to the teeth as if they're ready to play a bit part in a Schwarzenegger film, but instead stripped of everything bar the bare essentials.
