Resident Evil 7: 9 Times Capcom Abused The Fanbase

1. Resident Evil 6. All Of It.

A crowning achievement in abusing the good will of a fanbase, Resident Evil 6 promised so much yet was almost universally hated by the RE fans due to, well, everything really. Capcom attempted to make the most complete RE game ever, having four distinct campaigns all focussing on different cast members and with different game styles. Only Ada€™s campaign played anything like a classic RE game, but that in itself infuriated the fans as initially the only way to unlock it was to complete the three preceding ones. With each clocking in at about six hours long, that resulted in around 18 hours to work through before most fans found something they could enjoy. Then factor in that RE6 was the first game to receive a public backlash about the ethics of downloadable content. Initially, there was DLC planned which consisted of a new game mode, an extra character and the ability to open up Ada's campaign early, without having finished the other three parts of the game. People quickly worked out that all of this content was already on the game disc and Capcom were essentially asking for money for content that players technically already had in their possession. The backlash was enough that Capcom reversed their plans and made all of the planned content available for free. The biggest issue with RE6, however, was it simply was not a good game. With a distinct focus on quantity, quality went out of the window and the fans were left wanting, not more, but less. The fans have been crying out for a tight, focussed game that had scares a plenty, interesting enemies and a decent story worth exploring and discussing at length. RE6 had none of this, making it possibly the most disappointing game in the series, nearly killing off the franchise in its wake. Here's hoping RE7 isn't the shambling mess that it's predecessor was. What grudges do you still hold against Capcom, and what do you want to see in RE7? Let us know in the comments!
