Resident Evil 7: 9 Times Capcom Abused The Fanbase

9. The Death Of Albert Wesker

In Wesker, Capcom had created the ultimate bad guy, he's intelligent, physically strong and ultimately malevolent; he holds the human race entirely in disregard and has no qualms about committing genocide in order to reach his goal of complete and total domination of the world.

His demise though, will go down in the gaming history books as one of the most ridiculous scenarios ever written, and actually manages to completely disregard everything the series spent over a decade building up in terms of character and backstory. As he attempts to escape at the end of the game, Sheva and Chris force him to crash into the mouth of a volcano, where, in an act of desperation he infects himself with Oroborus and mutates into an enormous mess of tentacles and rage, only for the protagonists to ditch him into the lava and force two RPGs down his throat.

Everything about this ending is wrong. In the past, whenever Wesker was backed into a corner he managed to use his wit and intelligence to survive and escape to fight another day. In RE5 his end is met out of pure rage and desperation, two emotions the character has never exhibited. While the time was probably right to end Wesker's influence over the events of the series, the way he leaves is just cheap.
