Resident Evil 7: 9 Times Capcom Abused The Fanbase

7. The Nintendo Exclusivity

In the mid 2000s, Capcom inked what most people can only imagine was a very lucrative deal with Nintendo to bring the Resident Evil universe exclusively to the Gamecube. Having been largely exclusive to the Playstation, the move caused a lot of consternation amongst hardcore fans, especially given that it was during this period that two of the best games in the series were released, much to the PS crowd€™s annoyance.

The first was a remake of the first game which updated pretty much everything, REmake (as it came to be known) is considered vastly superior in almost every respect to the original game. With new locations and reworked puzzles, the game presented a new challenging take on what had become a classic and in many people's eyes, it has superseded the original in every single way.

Then came Resident Evil 4, which although it marked a return for Leon S. Kennedy it was a departure from the classic style of RE into the more action-orientated form the series exists in today. The fixed camera angles were ditched in favour of an over-the-shoulder view point and the zombies were replaced by the faster, more intelligent 'infected' Los Ganados villagers - a big departure from what we'd previously been fighting.
