Resident Evil 8: 7 Brand New Leaks & Rumours You Need To Know

2. Third-Person View Is Back

Resident Evil 7 immediately established itself as being different from past instalments through a shift in perspective. Even in its fixed-camera days, the franchise always adopted a third-person viewpoint, with full character models on display. To shake things up (and no doubt ride the first-person horror wave that was so popular at the time) Capcom went down the more claustrophobic FPS route with their last sequel, which did indeed make for a scarier experience overall.

However, Resident Evil 2 has proved that not only is there an appetite for the franchise to return to its over-the-shoulder conventions, but that the devs can still create an immersive, terrifying horror game with that perspective.

Allegedly, then, the devs are considering dropping the first-person view of the last mainline entry and capitalising on the success of 2. That makes sense, but hopefully there’ll be a way for them to include both ways of playing ala The Evil Within 2 - even if it’s only to secure that sweet, sweet VR support.
