Resident Evil 8: Every Plot Detail You Need To Know
5. Goodbye Zombies, Hello Vampires (And Werewolves)
Apart from the Molded, the living fungus-based enemies that appeared in RE7, the Resident Evil series is famous for having zombies as the standard enemy archetype. Seemingly impervious to bullets, defeating these creatures required well-placed shots to the head to take them down. This was integral to the resource management mechanics that helped define survival horror as a genre.
Likewise, the shambling undead of the zombie variety look to be sitting out of the next entry too. However, they’ll be replaced by a different kind of undead foe: vampires.
In the gameplay we’ve seen thus far, these creatures look to be shaking up combat in some interesting ways. Though they move as slow as zombies, defending against their toothy attacks will be a core part of the gameplay. On their own they might not pose much of a threat; but in groups they’re sure to be a tough challenge.
And that’s not all. We also know that werewolves will be another enemy type we can expect to face-off against. Fast and deadly, encountering these can’t be easy.
More importantly, though, these new enemies will incorporate some much-needed variety that was missing from the previous game.
