Cloned from the T-103 model in 1998, this unique form of the Tyrant line featured a giant claw on one arm and a battering ram on the other. So unlike previous models, there was no attempt from Umbrella to have the T-078 blend in.
Transported to Rockfort Island by HUNK, the T-078 remained there in stasis until awoken by Alfred Ashford in an attempt to kill Claire Redfield. And well, it very nearly completed its task.

BRING THE BIG GUNS!
This boss, unlike any in the Resident Evil franchise, will always be notoriously remembered as the one that cause players to either restart their game or quit all together.
This is due to the fact if Claire is to encounter the T-078 ill prepared there is no way to go back and collect the bigger guns. Locked in an ally surrounded by fire, all players could do was fire hopelessly as their impending doom approaches.
