Rocksteady Superman & Batman Arkham 2018: Everything We Know

1. Montreal's Batman Could Have A Co-Op Focus

Although Bat-fans have been clamouring for another Arkham Asylum for years now (as in a single-player, linear game), the series continued to push in an opposite direction. Arkham City, Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight all got bigger, but not necessarily better, as Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Montreal attempted to satisfy fan demand for an open world within the limitations of the Unreal engine.

To be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with an open world Batman title - if any character deserves the Spider-Man 2 treatment it most definitely is still The Dark Knight. It's more the fact that it never felt as though Rocksteady or Montreal were committed to the idea themselves, but with the genre still dominating action-adventure games, it's likely that both developers are incorporating a massive environment into their titles.

Evidenced by another of Montreal's listings, it also looks as though their next title is looking to incorporate the games-as-a-service model too. Also referenced is the claim that the next title will have a co-op focus which, given rumours that this next Montreal game spotlights Batman and Robin, makes almost too much sense.

No one knows how long we'll have to wait for an official announcement regarding the future of the Arkhamverse, but if development on these projects is as far along as has been claimed, Arkham fans shouldn't have to contemplate another year of waiting.

...Right?
