Satoru Iwata - 10 Iconic Nintendo Games You Should Play As Tribute

8. Wii Sports

Satoru Iwata oversaw some of the best and worst of Nintendo, but with the Wii he had a winner that was unlike anything else that had come before it. Best of all, it was his "blue sky" thinking that had resulted in the production of this gaming behemoth in the first place. Iwata believed that Nintendo would not be able to compete directly against Sony and Microsoft in the console war, so instead took the decision to position their next console as one that could be bought alongside either of its rivals, as well as being enjoyed by casual gamers as well. This way, Iwata's vision of bringing videogames to an even larger audience would be made possible. Of course, the Wii needed a killer app to really get the concept off the ground and, in Wii Sports, they had one. Nothing embodied the sheer amount of fun a Wii game could be more than Wii Sports. In fact, it could be argued that it stood as the best use of the Wii's unique capabilities for the entire length of the console's run.
