Sega Mega Drive Mini: Ranking The 10 Best Games

1. Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Who else could be number one but Sega’s spiky blue mascot?

Instantly accessible, and endlessly replayable, Sonic 2 is the best of an amazing set of Mega Drive Sonic games, and arguably the best of the series even today.

Picking up from a fantastic first game, your aim is still to race through a variety of themed levels, bouncing off robots, collecting golden rings and with any luck collecting Chaos Emeralds.

The levels are bold and bright, and cleverly designed to have you racing through them at warp speed before luring you into clever traps such as well placed spikes or even worse, a dreaded drop into a water section!

At the end of each act, the iconic boss theme kicks in, and you’ll be treated to a memorable boss battle against Dr Robotniks (Eggman for those less old-school than I!) latest craft.

The addition of a passable 2 player mode, sidekick Tails, and the pseudo 3D special stages (where Tails is a complete liability) are good additions, but what really makes Sonic 2 a great sequel, is more of the same done better; a wider variety of longer, better designed levels.
