2. Streets Of Rage 2

The jewel in a fantastic trilogy of side scrolling beat ‘em ups.

Picking from one of 4 characters (or 2 if playing with a friend) and making your way through the streets, beaches and factories of The Syndicate, fighting waves of bad guys and bosses before finally taking on Mr X.

Conceptually, it’s very similar to the original, but everything has been improved to such an extent, it actually makes the great original feel a little slow and small when going back and playing it.

Each character has a selection of standing, clinching and throwing attacks, plus specials that will knock down all surrounding enemies at the cost of a small portion of health.

The bad guys also come in a wide variety, from basic thugs with punches, to Thai boxers and ninjas who’ll surprise you with flying knees and sword attacks.

It all comes together to form an amazingly playable game with incredible replay value as you strive to fight further through the levels than last time. The bosses are bold and full of character, and Mr X and his lieutenant Shiva, are fierce rivals, backed up by a catchy boss theme, who you’ll never tire of battling against.
