Sega Mega Drive Mini: Ranking The 10 Best Games

8. Earthworm Jim

Sega Mega Drive Mini
Shiny

Shiny Entertainment’s 2D platformer puts you in control of Jim, an ordinary earthworm transformed by crawling into a Super Suit dropped from space.

From there, the story doesn’t get any more normal as you run, jump, shoot and whip your way through a variety of beautifully created levels, and come up against a number of foes just as bizarre as yourself.

Boss fights are fun and tough, although they can be a little obtuse until you figure out which weapon you’re meant to use against them. These range from traditional boss fights to a bungee jumping battle (I’m not making this up!)

The craziness certainly adds to the proceedings, but underneath it all is a fun and challenging platformer.

You’ll come across awkward jumps, fearsome bosses, and fiendish levels.

Piloting a fragile submarine and helping Peter Puppy travel unscathed across a level strewn with traps stand out amongst trickier levels, but thankfully, none of it feels unfair. With concentration and practice, you should be able to experience all of the fantastic levels and boss characters this game has to offer.
