Sega Mega Drive Mini: Ranking The 10 Best Games

7. Castlevania: Bloodlines

Sega Mega Drive Mini
Konami

The only Castlevania game released on the Mega Drive.

Bloodlines follows the usual recipe of proceeding through gothic themed levels, defeating horror themed monsters, and collecting gems to power your additional long range weapons to work alongside your whip or spear.

The levels look absolutely stunning with the swaying tower of Pisa a particular highlight, but all of the levels have fantastic detail to them.

It’s not likely you’ll have too much time to enjoy them, as Bloodlines is a tough game. Don’t be fooled by the length of your life bar, one or two botched jumps or mistimed attacks will see chunks fall of it, and it has too last you a long time, through the winding levels to the spectacular boss fights.

The bosses fit in with the rest of the theme, with a variety of huge demons to conquer. They follow the usual platform theme of memorising and exploiting their attack patterns, but remain interesting and challenging.

Despite the difficulty, tight controls make it a fair challenge, and not much beats the satisfaction fo seeing these epic bosses melt into flames once you’ve defeated them.
