Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

5. The Gorgeous Visuals

Much like its predecessor, Shadow sure is a handsome-looking game. Though it doesn't quite sit alongside the very finest AAA games on the market today, the art direction and general visual fidelity do combine to ensure this is a frequently ravishing experience.

Walking gingerly along a vertiginous cliff edge is quite the awe-inspiring sight, to say nothing of the game's eye-wateringly good lighting effects, especially if played in 4K.

Characters fare a little less well: most humans other than Lara are distractingly less-detailed, and lip sync is pretty rough for the most part. Though there was a lot of pre-release hand-wringing about Shadow being "downgraded" from Rise, it's hard to imagine many being left disappointed by the look of the end product.

Again, not a visual game-changer, but still (mostly) gorgeous to behold all the same.
