Shadow Of War: 10 Brutally Honest Impressions You Need To Know
1. Loot Boxes Don't Ruin The Experience (But They Shouldn't Be There)
Although they've always been controversial, it seems as though loot boxes have finally pushed the gaming world over the edge this year. Mostly included in multiplayer or free-to-play games, their creeping inclusion in single-player titles has been viewed as the final straw for the controversial feature.
In the run up to release, Shadow of War took a lot of flack for promoting the buying of these randomly generated crates with real-world money, but the truth is that they don't intrude on the central experience at all.
At least during the bulk of the main campaign, there's no reason to open any of these loot boxes even with the in-game currency the sequel throws at you. Dominating orcs is by far the title's best feature, and skipping this side of Shadow of War to open up crates instead isn't an appealing or necessary way to play the game.
Loot boxes still shouldn't be anywhere near full-price releases, but if they have to be implemented, then a system like Shadow of War seems like the least offensive way to do it.
