Shantae: All Games & DLC Ranked Worst To Best
7. Shantae And The Seven Sirens
The latest entry in the series as of writing, Shantae and the Seven Sirens is the definition of mediocrity. It doesn't feel like anybody wanted to make this, it looks like the developers over at WayForward just decided to make another Shantae game because they sell well enough nowadays.
Shantae And The Seven Sirens is functional but almost every environment looks the same, nothing interesting happens, and the game is way too easy. Also, any good ideas that are here are really underdeveloped.
The introduction to a ton of new half-genies could have been cool if we spent any time with them.
The instant transformations are a really cool idea. It manages to mesh the wacky forms of most Shantae games with the fast-paced gameplay that doesn't require stopping to dance from Shantae and the Pirate's Curse yet there are so few of them. Also, two of the five forms feel nearly identical with the Sea Frog and the Gastro Drill basically doing the same thing.
The ability to gain skills from enemies is really cool but most of the powers are so inconsequential that the novelty wears off quickly.
The game has some underutilised albeit good ideas and some really well-made cutscenes, that's about all the praise you can give to this entry.
