Shenmue 3: 10 Things It Must Do To Appeal To The Modern Gamer

9. Explanation Of The Back Story

Fans of the first two games in the series love them precisely for the rich narrative that flows between the two games. Those fortunate enough to play through the original games are still so invested in the story of Ryo Hazuki's quest to avenge his father that they have been waiting for more than 14 years to finally see the journey through to its end.

Those who haven't played the first two games are going to have a lot of catching up to do and there simply aren't going to be enough copies of those games to go around, especially now that they are selling for up to £100 online and require a Dreamcast to play.

With Yu Suzuki having little control over whether or not SEGA will bring the first two titles to modern gamers, he is going to have to find some way to regale newcomers with the story so far. He may not even be able to use footage from the original games - depending on the state of his agreements with SEGA - so the team may have to get creative.

Regardless, it is key to anyone's enjoyment of Shenmue 3 that they know what happened to bring Ryo Hazuki to this point.
