Silent Hill: 10 Reasons A Hideo Kojima Reboot Would Be Awesome

4. No More Baggage

Any series that has been around the block as long as Silent Hill often falls into the trap of becoming a bit stale. Spending as much time in the same continuity as Silent Hill has is dangerous, and runs the risk of leaving a series in rough shape years down the line. And while it's true that Silent Hill has perhaps survived a bit better than most would expect, there's still a sense of complacency with the franchise.

As a firm believer that most series need to be shaken up or flat out rebooted after a default number of years, Silent Hill is long overdue. It's been running for 14 years, which is a long time for anything to run. With Kojima having control over a total reboot, it allows them to clear out all the baggage and plot entanglements of the past decade and change course. You can clean up everything and start fresh, which is surely a blessing after ploughing the same furrow for such a long time. And often, starting fresh is the best option for a series in its waning hours. Giving it a fresh coat of paint and allowing it some room to breathe without being confined by its own history is refreshing. Let it strike out a new path, and think of it existing outside of itself, not in spite of itself. If Kojima were allowed to rewrite Silent Hill as he saw fit, you'd have a much more concrete view of where you can take it.
