Despite eventually proving to be harmless, the Larval Stalker (ghost baby) in Midwich Elementary School's appearance is the kind of thing that makes you drop the controller and never go back to a Silent Hill game. Making eerie noises and moving around just within the player's view at various times, this little spectre is guaranteed to catch you off guard.

In the corridors of the school, Larval Stalkers will suddenly appear and reveal that the player is not alone. While they are unable to cause damage to the player, a first encounter with them is certain to be concerning as they will start to toddle towards Harry and appear momentarily threatening in an odd way.

At a time when you're most likely expecting something large or obnoxiously scary to appear, the introduction of such a subtle little scare is perfect for the game to keep you honest. The impressive effect of the Larval Stalker shows Silent Hill doing what Silent Hill does best; making something so unexpected and subversive into a surprising and impactful moment of terror.
