Silent Hill: Every Playable Character Ranked Worst To Best
2. Heather Mason
Heather was a genuinely stunning protagonist, and she helped to ease a lot of people's anxieties with the direction of the third game.
While it's not considered fully up to par with its predecessors, Silent Hill 3 - and Heather, by extension - riskily decided to continue the original game's narrative whilst tying to involve the concepts brought up in the second. It wasn't perfect, but Heather helped combine the idea of a personal hell with Silent Hill's cult rather well.
There's a lot of merit to Heather outside of this as well, as she's thoroughly well written. Despite her age, the character is wise beyond her years and very quick-witted. This makes her incredibly believable as a survivor in this world, and her carefree attitude compliments this by making her quickly loveable.
One of the most important aspects of her character is age, as being a younger protagonist changes the stakes completely. When playing as her, you feel trapped by the pressure of youth, and this is reflected by the monsters who all resemble anxieties about puberty, self-consciousness and growing up.
This character was phenomenally relatable, as her care-free attitude and temperament made the player envision their self in her shoes.
