Although he is sat at the upper end of the list, it might be a little disappointing for some to see this iconic video game character at the number three spot, as he did a lot, not just for the franchise but also for gaming as a whole.

Harry was a great example of the levels of complexity and nuance you could cram into a playable protagonist, and for that, his legacy will last.

One of the most endearing things about him was his loyalty and devotion to his daughter, Cheryl. There's no question about his safety, as once she is lost in Silent Hill, he bravely ventures to find her. However, while finding his daughter is a big deal, the narrative doesn't feel all too personal. Everything happens to him, as opposed to manifesting his dark past, which brings him down a little.

Despite this, Harry deserves a tonne of praise for his iconic status with the franchise, as many players can easily remember him over more generic protagonists. He came along and made a significant impact, becoming a leading reason why the series was allowed to continue, and he did so by being a relatable/loveable father.
